Book Reports

John Paul Jones

Book report by Jonathan White

John Paul Jones was born on July6, 1747 in a cottage in Scotland. John’s father was the head gardener for the estate. That meant that he was charge of all the workers who took care of the herb and vegetable gardens and flowers.

When John was 13 he became an apprentice for Mr. Younger for seven years he would earn a little money but would learn to be a worthy seaman.

Then after 8 years he was able to be a captain. When he had free time he read a book. Then one day at sea pirates attacked his ship. John fought the pirates off, but his ship still sank. Because of John Paul Jones America has a navy. He died in Paris but President Roosevelt brought his body home to America. He was a brave soldier and great leader. The Navy uses his ideas today.

Ralph S. Mouse
By Beverly Clearly
Book Report by David White

Have you ever heard of a mouse who rides a motorcycle? Ralph S. Mouse rides a motorcycle. Ralph always wanted to go to school. Ryan, the mouse’s owner, said “No” at first, but then changed his mind. The class said Ralph was smart. The class wanted him to do a maze to see how smart he was. So he did the maze and he did it wrong. The class started saying he was not smart so Ryan got into a fight with a boy and broke Ralph’s motorcycle. The class told Ralph they were sorry for making fun of him. A newspaper reporter took a picture of Ralph, Ryan and the class and put it in the paper. Ryan felt bad for Ralph because his motorcycle broke and he got Ralph a brand new sports car. All of Ralph’s family wanted to ride in the car.

I think every fifth grader should read this book. This is the best book I ever read.

Personal Narratives

First Time Ice Skating

by Jonathan White

One time when I was in 3rd grade, I went ice skating with my school. It was so much fun but it was my first time going ice skating. When I got on the ice I fell but I got up. Then I fell again so I just held onto the rail. Finally I took a break and bought hot chocolate and candy.

Art Blast
by David White

I love to paint. I am going to paint my picture and it will be great. I will do it as soon as I can. It will be fun and the picture will have grass, trees, a sunset, and a sea. When I paint it and put it on a big piece of paper, I will then tape it to the wall. I love doing this. It will be fun and it will be a blast. When I am done, I will show it to everybody as soon as I can. This will be terrific picture.

Scags and Walkers
by David White

There are all kinds of mowers that are used in the lawn care business. The best mowers are the Scag and the Walker. Every lawn care business needs either a Scag or a Walker.

Scags and Walkers are the same in many ways. You can cut and stripe grass with them. Scags and walkers have arm rests. They both can go very fast. The mowers mow very good. They both come in different colors.

Scags and Walkers are different in many ways. Scags do not collect grass, but the Walker does. Scags can be used when mowing big fields. Walkers are better for smaller jobs, such as the front yard.

The boss needs to decide which mower is the best for their business. My pop has a Scag and I love to drive it. Someday I will be able to mow with it. If I had a lawn care business I would buy a Scag.
